POLICIES

Regular and Effective Contact This statement is a notice of “regular and effective contact” in class: Any portion of a course conducted through distance education includes regular effective contact between instructor and students, and among students, either synchronously or asynchronously, through group or individual meetings, orientation and review sessions, supplemental seminar or study sessions, field trips, library workshops, telephone contact, correspondence, voice mail, e-mail, or other activities. Regular effective contact is an academic and professional matter pursuant to sections 53200 et seq. You are invited to visit or call during office hours or email me your questions.  I will work with you to solve logistical and other barriers to learning as well as provide additional instruction if you are struggling. Late Assignments   Late assignments will not be accepted for any reason.  I understand that occasionally someone will have a valid reason for not handing in an assignment on time and this is one of the reasons why I offer an extra-credit assignment. Student Code of Conduct Academic Integrity and Student Rights Violations of academic integrity will also be reported, especially plagiarism.  Plagiarism—defined by the Academic Senate at Modesto Junior College as “the deliberate adoption or reproduction of ideas, words or statements of another person as one’s own, without acknowledgement”—will not be tolerated.  I reserve the right to run any assignment through an Internet search in order to verify that the work you submit is your own. Academic freedom will be strictly respected in the classroom. The Academic Senate affirms that “students are encouraged to develop the capacity for critical judgment and to engage in a sustained and independent search for truth.” Every student in this course has the right to not be discriminated against due to color or ethnic group identification, religion, age, gender, or physical or mental disability.
